Lab Notebook

The lab notebook is a project I began in February of 2014 to track my work and studio practice. It is a useful tool for tracking the evolution of my work and ideas, as
I make a lab report for each new project I undertake:
PURPOSE
HYPOTHESIS
MATERIALS
PROCEDURE
DATA
CONCLUSION
The data I collect about my work involves cataloging my thoughts, technical issues, and analyzing material choices, time spent on pieces, etc. This allows me to not only understand my own progress as these pieces develop but to evaluate what happens when an objective empirical method used by scientists is applied to something considered subjective like art. The irony of this juxtaposition becomes a critique of both disciplines as I survey their means of collecting and evaluating information, as well as their written and visual languages.
