Transfer Instructions

There are a few different solvents than can be used to do transfers of photocopied or laserprinted images.  I usually use a xylene colorless blender marker because it's the least messy and most portable.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Lay out brushes in Photoshop, leaving enough space between brushes to cut them out and tape down the edges.  Here is a template to place brushes in if you'd like.
  2. Print out images of brushes on a laserprinter or make copies of an existing printout.  Toner is necessary for this process to work, images from an inkjet printer will wash out instead of transferring.
  3. Cut out brushes into individual components.  I find it helpful to keep them sorted by size and family when system building.
  4. Tape component face down on your surface in at least two spots to hold it in place while transferring.
  5. Apply xylene marker to the back of the image then burnish it with a bone folder or the back of a spoon until you see the toner discharging from the paper.  Be careful, over-burnishing can cause your image to blur.
  6. Remove tape and paper to see your image.
  7. Place another brush in relation to the first and repeat until you've built a complete system.

Please send me images of any systems you build with my brushes
